Abstract
The antioxidative activity of Ginkgo biloba leaves was determined by measuring the inhibition of linoleic acid autoxidation and scavenging effects on DPPH radical and on superoxide anion. The Me©üC0 extract of G. biloba leaves showed strong antioxidative activity. The antioxidative activities of the fractionated extract were in the order of water>EtOAc>n-butanol fractions. All fractions exhibiting strong and moderate antioxidative activities were further purified via repeated silica gel, Amberlite IRN-78, Polyclar AT, Sephadex LH-20, and Sepralyte RP-18 column chromatographies. Antioxidant components were isolated and identified through ©öH-NMR and ^(13)C-NMR. The compounds were characterized as kaempferol 3-¥Ï-(2"-¥Ï-¥â-D-glucopyranosyl)-¥á-L-rhamnopyranoside, kaempferol 3-¥Ï-¥á-(6"¢¥-p-coumaroyl-glucosyl-¥â-1,4-rhamnoside), and quercertin-3-¥Ï-¥á-(6"¢¥-p-coumaroylglucosyl-¥â-1,4-rhammoside).
